I know I’ve sang the praises of TUT before, but… it’s really awesome. It’s these e-mails that you subscribe to that are “Notes From The Universe” and they’re incredibly encouraging and spiritual and life-affirming. I can’t explain it. I’m sure they’re the exact same for everyone who receives them — I’m not naive enough to think they’re special just for me. But it’s kind of like a fortune cookie or a horoscope… you take what’s useful and you let it influence your life for the better. I got one yesterday that was particularly memorable.
I mean, such a simple concept, but why is this so hard to remember? Why is it so easy to discourage ourselves? To convince ourselves that things aren’t worth our time, aren’t worth the money, aren’t worth the effort to even begin? I do it to myself every day. It’s almost as if I don’t feel any venture is worth it if it isn’t immediately fun, or doesn’t immediately produce results. Why go to school if I have to wait 4, or 8, years to graduate? Why start working out if I have to wait weeks or months to see a change in my weight or in my appearance? Why eat better if it’s not like taking a miracle pill that instantly makes my hair shinier, my skin clearer, and my face brighter?
We should all remember more often that everything we DO is a step in SOME direction, and everything we don’t do — everything we talk ourselves out of — is just us standing still. I’d rather move forward, even if it’s just an inch at a time, than stay in the same place forever.
