Keeping Up With the Tragedy

I don’t know if I can sum it up any better than Jon Stewart already has. You can view the clip of him giving a much needed serious dialogue at the opening of his December 3rd episode. It’s just unbelievable to me. You can toss around the idea of “things need to get worse before they can get any better” but it’s hard to imagine things getting any worse than they are now.

“We are definitely not living in a post-racial society,” Stewart went on, “and I can imagine there are a lot of people out there wondering how much of a society we’re living in at all.”

When it’s hard to keep up with the violence and the injustice — when you have to ask “which death?” or “which riot?” or “which completely backwards ruling?” — things have gotten so far out of hand that I can’t imagine how we’ll come back from it. I’m just so sorry for Michael Brown and Eric Garner and all of the other lives that have to be lost before we can be human again.
